TABOOED LIFE

Forlorn; widow; a new status,

Fetched by the fearsome fate.

What an inexplicable trauma..

She is like a wounded bird

Trying to fly with its broken wing,

To hide from the vultures hovering.

The soundless roaring monsters

Fought to grab her gorgeous dresses.

Forbidden from the colours of life,

Hurting her with words and deeds.

Her shattered figure, a joy to some.

She immolates her hopes, cravings

And dreams in the altar of life.

The ingrained convictions

Made her an inauspicious star.

Her heart bleeds with kids’ suffering.

A pyre; they long for their Pa’s hug.

Denied, dejected, a cheerless life.

Poor sighing sobbing soul.

Longing for a seismic change.

THE UNPAID

The Golden wedding ring

Was once her pride and joy.

Her love for him was madly

Embedded in her soul.

With a tremor she knew it,

A dupe she was, dupe of his fav.

And he a real life actor.

Wounded womanness wept

Oh! Janus* faced lover…

She was just an imp of joy.

The clotted love struggled to flow.

Insane betrayal lurked beneath.

Lost the burst of laughter forever.

Smiles have hidden miles away.

She held back her tears amidst

The agony of the tormented soul.

Grew up as an orphan girl

Dreamt of the rainbow of life.

The sneaking lust of her mate

Her Life, heap of crumbled papers.

Rushing often to the mirror

Tried to spot the invisible self.

Tears like torrents relieved her

Wished if the mirror had life.

A dancer died and a singer sighed.

This suppressed “SHE” is infinite

The stories alike never ends.

The zeal for justice is oft denied.

Never ever they knew that

She can be paid only with love.

* Janus: An ancient Italian deity, guardian of doorways and gates and protector of the state in time of war. He is usually represented with two faces, so that he looks both forward and backward.

LEAPING LABELS

Everything needs a label;

To get it known to others.

The misty eyed lass speaks.

But her true self is weeping.

Some onerous labels give us honour.

But some titles cause a crisis.

She goes on with icy calm.

Even strangers use it.

Painfully heard and admitted

With a renewing pain each time.

Divorcee, widow, orphan

Poor, bastard and low cast

Homeless, deaf and lunatic

Callous horrendous pet names.

They are tabooed.

Their lives an eristic game,

These are their labels to the world.

She goes on with a flinty gaze.

The remarks; with a soupcon of hatred

Sorrow smouldered in the bottom.

Tears welled up in her eyes;

“I lead a lonely silent struggle

Not for me but for my issues.

My dickey heart speaks in a minor key

Better leave this world

Than leading a dog’s life.

If I had my druthers

I would have left this world”.
